There's many places in Canberra to take your dogs for walks or hikes and I'm still discovering some of these places. I would love to hear some of your recommendations as I love discovering new places to walk my dogs and to photograph dogs at.
Having lived in Canberra for over 25 years I know there's a lot of places to take my pups from dog friendly tracks, swimming locations and on-leash and off-leash parks.
Here are some of my favourite places in Canberra to take my dogs for a walk and being a Canberra pet photographer these are also my favourite places in Canberra to photograph dogs.
Yarralumla English Garden and Weston Park
For a nice short stroll and beautiful scenery, you can start by having a brunch or coffee at the Yarralumla Gallery and the Oaks Brasserie located opposite the Yarralumla Heritage Nursery. They also have some menu for your pups so you can order some pasta or a popsicle to treat your pups. From here the garden behind the brasserie is a beautiful place for a stroll. You can then walk the tracks which takes you down to Weston Park.
The National Arboretum
The National Arboretum Canberra has some really great walks and you can take in the stunning views and discover the Arboretum’s 94 forests of rare, endangered and symbolic trees. There are plenty of options here from the Dairy Farmers H ill Lookout, the Himalayan Cedar Forest or the Cork Oak Forest. From short walks to hikes
Lake Burley Griffin
If you like more of a lake view you can take in the beautiful scenery around Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin. You can enjoy a short stroll from Kingston Foreshore to the National Library (or vice versa) or do the whole bridge to bridge which takes around 5km. There's always a cafe nearby if you want to stop for a short break or a nice cup of coffee to finish off your walk.
Mount Ainslie and Mount Painter
For more of challenging walk or a hike, you can take your dogs up Mount Ainslie trail starting from the bottom near the National War Memorial and finishing up at the lookout where you can take in the stunning landscape views of Canberra. You can have a rest up here before making descending back down.
Another great hike which is a bit less steep than Mount Ainslie and also offers you a beautiful stunning view of Canberra is Mount Painter.
I could list a whole lot more but then this blog could go on forever! I also need to start exploring more and discovering new walks around Canberra and once I've done this I will create another blog post.
I'd love to know your favourite places to take your dogs for walks around Canberra. Comment below, contact me or send me a DM on Instagram or Facebook. I go for location scouting from time to time and would love to have a dog to photograph to come along with me. So if you're interested, send me an email and come along with me on my next location scouting for new places to photograph.
I also do adventure sessions where we'll go for a hike and photograph your dog. Contact me if you'd like to book in a session.
This post is a part of the Pet Photographers blog circle I am in where we write a blog post based on a weekly theme. To see what the next pet photographer is sharing for the weekly theme of "My # favourite hikes/walks in"

Angela Schneider - Dang. Now I have to put hiking near Canberra on my bucket list. You have some great spots for adventure dog photography sessions, too. Amazing.
