Canberra Paws Calendar Contest
At the end of 2020 I started the Canberra Paws Calendar Contest. I saw that another pet photographer in the US had run and thought this would be a great idea for a way for me to give back to the local pet charities and also involve the community. Thanks to Jessica Wasik from Bark and Gold Photography I was able to get it started quickly as half of the year was already past when I heard about the contest.
The first year of the Canberra Paws Calendar contest was a big success and ended up raising over $10,000 for ACT Pet Crisis Support which was the charity I selected. The entry fees for the calendar contest as well as donation for the votes and pre-orders all went straight to ACT Pet Crisis support. With the money raised, ACT Pet Crisis Support were able to help disadvantaged pet owners keep their pets healthy by contributing towards medical bills that would otherwise result in euthanasia. All donations go directly towards medical bills for these pets. Last year in 2021 the contest raised even more (just over $12,000) and this year in 2022 I am hoping that we can raise this goal post to $15,000. The calendar contest will be launching around March/April. So keep an eye out if you'd like to participate.

Tails of Canberra book
Another fundraising project I started early last year is the Tails of Canberra book project. It's been a challenging project to be honest but I am nearly there and the book is close to getting finished and I hope to get to the printers in the next month. This project raised $2200 for ACT Rescue and Foster (ARF). ARF is ran by a group of volunteers in Canberra and surrounding regions who rescue dogs from euthanasia and fostering them for as long as it takes to find them permanent loving homes.
Hear No Evil - Australian Deaf Dog Rescue
In addition to the fundraising projects listed above and helping a local rescue (ARF), I also volunteer my time to photograph rescue dogs from Australia Deaf Dog rescue, Hear No Evil. 'Hear No Evil' is Australia's leading rescue and re-homing group for deaf and special need dogs. They are a No Kill rescue, which means they do not euthanise dogs for space or because they have been in care too long, nor because they are deemed un-appealing to adopt. They are run fully by volunteers so I am glad I am able to help by taking photos of the dogs located in Canberra who are up for adoption. The photos I take will hopefully help these dogs find their forever loving homes.
Do you have a suggestion for charities I can help in Canberra or are you a local Canberra pet charity or rescue interested in working with me? If so, send me an email at ina@inajphotography.com or via the contact form.

Tracy Allard - That image of the little white dog running at you - oh my! SCORE! And how wonderful that you have a local rescue dedicated to deaf dogs. I've had a number of them in my training classes over the years. They love just as much as any other dog and are quite easy to train too!

Angela Schneider - There's something so extra special about working with special needs dogs, like your deaf rescue, isn't there? They have no more a care in the world than a hearing dog and yet they show a stronger resilience to all things the world throws at them.
