One of the best parts about being a pet photographer is that no two days are ever the same. It's not just taking photos and editing, it's the work on the business itself that takes a lot of work. There's always new technology and new things to navigate so that means I always have to continuously learn.
Over time, I’ve had the privilege of learning from some incredible people. Photographers who generously shared their knowledge, mentors and coaches who encouraged me, and I've built a really good circle of pet photographer friends who I talk to regularly to share our wins and also get help with the struggles. They also inspire me to keep pushing myself both in the business but also creatively. One thing for sure, I’m so grateful for the help I’ve had along the way. None of us gets here alone.
Whether it’s refining my editing techniques, learning new technologies and systems, learning to keep better understanding pet behaviours and how to work with them or improving my client workflows, there is always room to grow.
In the last couple of years, I have been approached by many pet photographers who wanted to learn from my experience. They're interested in how I grew my business, how to get better at photographing dogs, mastering editing techniques and optimising their workflows and business. Because of this, I am expanding my offerings to include coaching and mentoring other pet photographers and sharing my expertise and experience. However, my pet photography business will still remain my main focus.
One thing I'm excited about is that I am off to Melbourne in July to run some photography and business workshops. I ran a couple of outdoor dog photography workshops there last year and it was lots of fun, so I'll be back there this July.
If you’re a pet photographer who wants to develop your outdoor dog photography skills, want to explore photographing dogs in studio and learn some foundation knowledge in pet photography business fundamentals, these workshops are for you. Melbourne is just the start of it, I've got plans to run more workshops in other states including Hobart in June too!
I am so excited to connect with other photographers and share what I've learnt and create a space where you can feel inspired. I wouldn't be where I am now without the support, encouragement of others and I'm really keen to pay it forward.
I hope to see you there!
