Last year, I went on a spectacular adventure to Iceland as a dedicated photographer attending a one-of-a-kind retreat aimed at capturing the spirit of dogs in Iceland's breathtaking environment.
After the pet photography retreat I also went on an 11 days Landscape Photography Tour. What I was not expecting on this landscape photography tour was that we were going to photograph Icelandic Horses. The workshop instructors knew i was a pet photographer so he organised this with me in mind so not only got to photograph beautiful landscapes of Iceland, but we also had the great opportunity to capture another famous creature: the majestic Icelandic horses. And let me tell you, these horses are really special. With their flowing manes and commanding presence, they stole the stage wherever they went.
What was special too was that we got to photograph them at this waterfall and there was no one there but us!
Photographing the Icelandic horses was a unique challenge. Horses have a more stoic demeanour that takes patience and respect, as opposed to dogs, who are typically ready to pose for photos. I was mesmerised by their beauty, attempting to capture the spirit of their elegance and force in each photo. It was a moving event that left me in awe of these amazing creatures and their connection to the Icelandic outdoors.
My trip to Iceland for a dog photography retreat was more than simply an opportunity to improve my skills; it was a journey of self-discovery and awe. It taught me to see the world with fresh eyes and to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us in all its forms. And for that, I shall be eternally thankful. Until we meet again, Iceland: thank you for the memories.
