I love capturing photos of dogs or pet portraits that show their personality. However, during our pet photography session, I also love to capture photos of of your pets with their people.
I often hear people say, "Our pets are part of the family." And it's so true, especially for me as I live on my own, my 3 dogs are my family!
Our pets bring so much love and joy into our lives, so why not include them in your family portraits? Including pets in family pictures adds personality and love to the images, but it does require a bit of effort. Here are my top tips for ensuring your session runs smoothly and stress-free.
Focus on Connections and Emotion
What makes your bond with your pet unique? I love being able to capture the connections and bond pets have with their people.
So that I can capture the connections and emotion, be sure to complete the questionnaire I send you prior to your session. This helps me to understand more about your pet's personality and what your pet means to you. Share your favourite memories of them so I can use this insight to create photos that reflect your connection. My goal is to create photographs that capture your story and connection.
Plan Your Outfits and Dress Comfortably
You don't have to go completely matchy-matchy with your outfits, but it helps if everyone's clothes look good together. Pick tones that complement your pet's fur. If you have a black dog or pets with dark fur, avoid wearing dark colours/black so your pet don't blend in.
Make sure you choose outfits you can move around in as there will be kneeling or playing during the session.
Consider how your pet's collar or accessory complements the family's overall style. But don't worry too much—the focus is on the connection, not the clothes!
Natural Posing—Let’s Have Fun!
It's fantastic to get a few posed photos, but some of the best photos are taken when you and your pet are simply being yourself, having fun or interacting. Whether you're playing fetch, snuggling, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment together, I'll be there to capture the genuine, unposed moments.
Be patient, embrace the unexpected and don't stress!!
Relax and enjoy the whole pet photography experience. Your pet feeds of your energy so it's important that you don't stress and stay relaxed. If things don't go perfectly, that's all good, sometimes these moments often create the best photos! Sometimes we just need to take breaks, or turn it into play time and have a cuddle, a run or a play. The best moments happen when you're interacting with your pets naturally.
If you've been thinking about doing a family photo session with your pet, let's make it happen! It's all about capturing the love, happiness, and connection you have with your family members, and I'm here to help make that easy and enjoyable. Feel free to contact me to get started—I can't wait to meet your pet and make some wonderful memories together!
