So this week's blog topic is about popular breeds. Over the last couple of years since I've started pet photography I've photographed over 200 dogs, 2 cats and a bunny. Yes, it seems that my clients are mostly dogs. From these hundreds of dogs I photograph there are a variety of breeds from pure breeds to mixed breeds. Many of them are rescues as well.
One of the breeds I've photographed a lot of are Corgis. They are so cute with their long body and short legs and I just love when they wiggle their bottom lol...
There are also 2 types of Corgis and I've photographed both - they are the Pembroke Welsh Corgis and the Cardigan Welsh Corgis. The Cardigan corgis are usually a bit bigger than the Pembroke and they've got more colours as well. Both types of Corgis are cute and they're pretty smart too.
So without further ado here are some pet photography sessions that I've done with Corgis around Canberra.
Pepper
Pepper is such a cute little Corgi. She's quite small than the usual Corgi. Plus this shoot was done when she was only a puppy - I think she was 5 months old then. She's definitely grown bigger since then, in fact I bumped into her and her owners today with her brother Joey (a white Swiss shepherd). She's still cute!!
We did our session at Yarralumla English Garden last year in Autumn. The autumn colours around Canberra is always beautiful and Yarralumla is a great location for this. Pepper was such a good model too and of course cute!
Poppy
Poppy was also a puppy when we did this shoot. She was 15 weeks old but she was bigger than Pepper. Poppy is a tri-colour Corgi which is not like the usual red and white corgis you see around. Even though she was a puppy she was very confident and playful and she loves making new friends, both humans and doggos. We did the shoot in the same location as you can see from the lavender bush in the photos. We did the shoot at winter time so the beautiful autumn leaves has gone a bit dull but we still had lots of fun and got some great shots.
Sully and Zimri
Sully and Zimri are Cardigan Welsh Corgis. They've got gorgeous colouring, especially Sully who has got the blue merle colours. Sully and Zimri are actually related, they are cousins and they are very well trained. Zimri is actually a dog model and he has done some photoshoots for a commercial!
As you probably can tell the Yarralumla English Garden is my favourite location as I photograph there a lot. I think I was there every week for most of the year. It's so beautiful throughout the year with beautiful colours in Autumn and Spring. I think it's my favourite location to go to in Canberra too
Gilbert
The most recent shoot I did was with Gilbert the Cardigan Corgi. This was just after we came out of lockdown and we did our shoot at Commonwealth park. Usually this time of year is when Floriade is being held. Floriade is an annual flower festival and one of the biggest spring festivals in Australia and a big tourist attraction in Canberra. However, since we were in lockdown, Floriade got cancelled but all the flowers were all planted back in June before lockdown. Commonwealth Park is usually dog friendly all year round but dogs are not allowed during the month Floriade is on except on the last day when they hold Dogs Day Out. On that last day where dogs are allowed it's usually packed and so busy. So we got really lucky because we were able to go there and take photos while the flowers are still blooming. It was such a fun session with Gilbert!
I'd love to know what your favourite breed is? If you're interested in booking in a session for your dog, then let's have a chat. Keep an eye out for Christmas mini sessions that I'll be announcing soon.

Tracy Allard - I don't know how you didn't sneak Pepper into your pocket at the end of the session! I could photograph Corgis all day long and your images are fantastic!
