"When's the best time to book a session for my pet?" is a question I am asked often. Every season has its own unique appeal, but for pet photography, my favourite seasons would be spring and autumn. Each of these seasons offers unique hues, tones, and energies that can wonderfully convey your pet's individuality. Let's explore what makes spring and autumn lovely, and and keep reading for some exciting news about my upcoming Pet Photography Retreat in Bright, Victoria next Autumn!
Spring: Vibrant, Joyful, and Invigorating
Spring is a time of fresh starts, blossoming flowers, and an overall sense of excitement. Canberra is such a beautiful location in Spring with lots of beautiful gardens around the city. Everything feels alive and vibrant during this time, including your pet. Whether your pet is a bundle of energy or more reserved, the vibrant flowers and green surroundings of spring provide an incredible environment. I adore taking pictures of dogs dashing across the grass, or posing against the flowerbeds at the golden hour, it's great for highlighting your pet's lively energy.
Why Is Spring Lighting Special?
The golden, mellow light of spring is also perfect for bringing out the twinkle in your pet's eyes and coat. Your pet can run about and explore without getting too overheated because it's not too hot yet, which leads to longer, relaxed sessions (and awesome frames!).
Autumn: Warm, Cosy, and Heartfelt
If you want to slow down and take in the cosy and enchanting season, and love the beautiful warm tones, then autumn is for you. The backdrop created by the orange, red, and golden leaves is warm and welcoming, making it great for pet photos. The autumn season is the ideal time to photograph your pet's more serene, peaceful side if they like slower-paced activities like strolling through leaf piles or just relaxing in the colder temperature. I find the colours of autumn is just stunning too creating beautiful warm tones.
Magic in the Autumn Lighting
The golden hour of autumn is unlike any other; it's richer, warmer, and has a glow that gives your pictures plenty of depth. In addition to making your pet more comfortable, the cooler weather also presents a chance to capture those serene, tranquil moments and have more laid-back sessions.
Whichever season speaks to you, both seasons provide a lovely, natural setting to celebrate your pet’s personality.
