If you're a client of mine, you probably see me carrying a bit of gear when we have our photography session. This is because I want to make sure I get a variety of shots captured at your pet photography session. In addition to my camera body and lenses there's also one other "gear" that I must bring to every session.
But first, let's talk about what lenses I use to capture the beautiful images at your session.
I've got 4 lenses but there are 3 lenses that I usually use and they cover a range of length. For example I've got my favourite all-round portrait lens which is the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 - yes, this probably doesn't mean anything to you but let's just say this lens is a great one. It covers a good focal length and this is my main lens that I usually have on my camera.
This lens takes awesome photo and because of the wide aperture it gives a good 'bokeh' which is the aesthetic quality of the blur in the image.
Here are some photos taken with this lens.
The other lens that I love is my 85mm prime lens. This one has an even wider aperture than the Tamron one... this means you get an even shallow depth of field. It is a longer lens too so sometimes you'll see me take a photo from quite far back. Because it's a prime lens there's no zoom so to "zoom in" I need to walk close and to "zoom out" I need to go further back. This lens is really sharp too and I also like to use this lens for my action shots too.
The third lens that I like to use at each of my pet photography session is my wide angle lens. I usually use an off-camera flash when I take photo using this lens. The wide angle lens is fun as it creates a perspective distortion in the images and it captures the dog and the surrounding environment. Using the wide angle lens with off camera flash also allows me to use a wider aperture which means sharp images including the background. Using this lens means I do have to get super close to the dog, so if your dog isn't comfortable with my lens super close to them, I would use my other lenses and capture different images instead.
Below are some photos that are captured with my wide angle lens.
That "other gear" is my noisemakers. Besides using my voice to make noises I also have a couple of noisemakers I bring with me. The noisemaker is useful to get your dog's attention and create those cute head tilts!!
So there it is, these are the photography gears that I usually have with me at every session. It may seem like a lot but they are necessary for me to create a variety of beautiful images of your dog for you

Elaine - I love the 85mm as well, but mine is a manual lens so I primarily use it in the studio. Your wide angle shots are fantastic!

Angela Schneider - That cardigan corgi looks like such a little snuggler. I love the variety you seem to get out of a session, and it comes with something so easy as the switch of a lens!
