The one thing that I would love Canberra to have is a beach. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a beach right here in Canberra, where you don't have to drive over 2 hours away to find a beach. It would be amazing because I would then be able to photograph dogs at the beach. Anyway, regardless it is good that there is a dog friendly part of the Lake that dogs can go to here in Canberra.
I love action shots and I love getting actions shots of dogs in the water. So from the start of this year I've been going to the "dog beach" a lot in Yarralumla Orana Bay where dogs can freely run and swim in the lake. It's so awesome seeing dogs going into water, swimming and then shaking all the water off. My dogs hates water and will not go in so I have to just watch other dogs do it.
Since going to the dog beach and seeing dogs in action in the water, I decided to do some photography sessions right here to get some photos of dogs in action swimming and jumping into the water.
One of the first action shoot sessions in the water that I did was with Bonnie. Bonnie loved to play fetch and she loves to swim so we combined both!! She could keep going for hours if we let her.
I haven't done too many shoots in the water but because I usually do my photography sessions nearby I like to stop by the dog beach and just take photos. One day after a session finished early and the sunset was beautiful I stopped by the dog beach. This cute Samoyed, Astro was in the water and I asked his owner if I could take some photos. He was the cutest and was just in the water barking.
I would love to do more pet photography sessions in the water and I think in the future I definitely would like to get an underwater housing for my camera... although I don't think Lake Burley Griffin is great for swimming.
Does your dog love the water or love swimming? Let me know and if you'd like to book in a pet photography session, why not book in a chat with me below.

Elaine - Like you, I wish I lived closer to the beach. I love finding dogs on the beach when I visit, and photographing them. Unfortunately, the beach is 4 hours away for me (which means 5 hours with traffic). That Samoyed is adorable!

Holly - Wow Ina!! Beautiful photos! The Sammy in the water is amazing. My Sammy used to stand in the water and bark for no good reason too. I always thought he was just happy. 😁

Cahlean - If only we all had beaches nearby in short drives (ok... I live in a land of 10,000+ lakes...)! Lovely images of dogs frolicking in the water, the splashing water really adds to the action!

Tracy Allard - Bonnie looked like a blast to photograph and what luck for you that this gorgeous Samoyed walked into your frame while visiting the beach!

Angela - I'm landlocked, too! And that's really tough for a gal who grew up on the beach. I get envious for everyone's photos sometimes but then I remember I have beautiful glacier lakes and mountains that they're jealous of!
