Living in Canberra, Australia, we don't really get any snow here. So I don't really get to photograph dogs in snow. Yes it does get really cold and yes sometimes there has been the occasional snow but not long enough for it to stay and settle on the ground. So, when I got the opportunity to go to a pet photography workshop in Queenstown, New Zealand back in August this year I jumped at the opportunity which I mentioned in my last blog post and maybe a few others. Well if I mentioned it a lot because it was an EPIC trip!
We were lucky that on one of the days we went, we got to photograph in snow up at the Crown Ranges and there were a good amount of snow there!! Photographing dogs in snow has it's challenges, mainly me not falling down or getting knee deep stuck in snow!!
The other challenge is that I needed to be careful with my exposure as sometimes the snow makes the camera thinks everything is bright and white, but need to also be careful at not overexposing the snow.
I was luck to have such great dogs modelling for us during this workshop so there wasn't that added worry about also getting the dogs under control.
I would love to do more snow photos in Australia. Are there any places with snow that are dog friendly? I'd love to know - make sure to comment below.

Cahlean - Those are LOVELY snow images! Glad you got the opportunity to adventure into a snowier area. And I totally forget that your seasons are swapped with the Northern Hemisphere. A Saint Bernard in the mountains in the snow? How iconic & awesome!
